Unfond farewell to Sen. Hatch

The longest-serving Republican senator in U.S. history announced this week that he will finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally retire. That’s seven “finallys” — one for each of the consecutive six-year terms Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, served.

Dr. MLK celebration set Jan. 13-14 The Dr. MLK City Wide Celebration in Eunice will begin with a Prayer Breakfast at 9 .m. Jan. 13 at the New Zion Baptist Church gym with guest speaker Rev. Caleb Simien. There will be a parade on Jan. 14 with line up beginning at City Hall at 12:30 p.m.

Father charged in death of 5-month-old child

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies working with Duson Police have arrested a Duson man in the death of a 5-month-old child Tuesday morning, according to a news release from Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson.

Crime Stoppers of Acadia Parish needs tips to solve vehicle burglary

The Crowley Police Department is investigating a vehicle burglary that occurred at about 4 a.m. Nov. 8, 2017, in the 700 block of North Ave. J, in Crowley. Two suspects were seen entering an unlocked vehicle. They were both described as white males wearing light jackets and dark pants.

Tips sought in Opelousas thefts

St Landry Crime Stoppers and the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help in locating the suspects involved in a theft in the 100 block of Sunnydale Road in Opelousas. On Dec. 14, 2017, the owner reported that he left his residence at about 8 a.m. then at 11 a.m.

Did you know? Credit card skimmers found in area

Recently the Secret Service sent out an advisory of skimming devices found in Lafayette. Skimming devices were found within gas pumps of a local gas station on Guilbeau Road.

Baltakis to lead United Way Board

Eunice resident Donna Baltakis was installed as president of the the St. Landry / Evangeline United Way at its 2017 Annual Appreciation Banquet at the Little Big Cup in Arnaudville on Dec. 11. Executive Director Ginger LeCompte introduced all board members for 2018.
