Fire destroys Henderson landmark

An early morning fire on Sunday, Nov. 19 destroyed Robin’s Hardware, a landmark in this small community. Henderson police officer Jordan Noel sounded the alarm around 1 a.m., Henderson, Breaux Bridge, Cecilia and Arnaudville fire departments responded to the blaze.

DOTD closes bridge on South John Hardy Drive in Abbeville

Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza received a surprise phone call from the Department of Transportation (DOTD) about the closing of a bridge in Abbeville. DOTD informed the mayor that the small bridge on South John Hardy Drive, near the Lafitte Shopping Center, will be closed indefinitely.

“Dirty Rice” 20th anniversary showing is Monday; filmed in Eunice

The 20th anniversary screening of “Dirty Rice” is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Monday at a Red Carpet community celebration of the film made in the heart of Cajun country and steeped in Cajun culture, according to an announcement from Cinema on the Bayou Film Society and Acadiana Center for the Arts.

Wounded suspect identified in hostage incident

Eunice Police officers were involved in a shooting at about noon Thursday at the intersection of Park Avenue and 9th Street that left 33-year-old Bryan Britnell wounded. The shooting occurred in the residential area after a report of a hostage situation, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
