The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. Aug. 1 Joseph Mark Ledoux, 33, 400 block of River Road, Lawtell. Bench warrant; possession of marijuana; introduction/possession of contraband into a penal facility. Paul Collins, 45, 100 block of Sherri Street, Opelousas.

Fenrick Manuel passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at the age of 89. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017, at 1:00 PM at Quirk & Son Funeral Home in Eunice. Deacon Gary Gaudin will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Ann's Cemetery in Mamou.

Parents Reachout host Back to School The Parents Reachout Club will host its annual Back To School Funday on Saturday at the Southeast Neighborhood Center in Eunice from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be school back packs with supplies, giveaways, food and games, face painting, fun jumps, etc.

Eunice officer champions child car seats

Since its inception in Eunice last fall, a child passenger safety program has helped parents and guardians properly secure children in car seats. The program began with Safe Kids Worldwide, a nonprofit that works to prevent deaths of children from preventable injuries.

Eunice Police ready to put paws on crime

One of the newest members of the Eunice Police force is Robin, a 13-month-old Belgium Malinois. Robin has been trained in patrol, apprehension of suspects by force or bark, tracking and the odor of illegal drugs, said handler Lt. Michael Dunn.

Cajun musician D.L. Menard dies; gained fame with ‘The Back Door’

The news slowly began to spread by 9 Thursday morning in Erath. The news spread that the most famous person in Erath and one of the most famous musicians in Acadiana, had died. D.L. (Doris Leon) Menard passed away Thursday surrounded by family after a short battle with cancer. He was 85 years old.
