Hebert, Arvie named Cotton Festival royalty

The Louisiana Cotton Association announced the royalty for the 71st annual Louisiana Cotton Festival, which will be held from Oct. 6 to Oct. 12. Carissa Ann Hebert is being honored by the festival board as Colonel Cotton this year for her dedication to the festival for many years.

3 wanted for burglaries in Acadia Parish

The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for help locating the following fugitives wanted for various burglaries. Joseph Blaine Mistric is a white male, 43 years of age. He is 5’11” in height and weighs approx. 170 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Remains found in Beauregard Parish linked to Evangeline Parish

A timber marking crew discovered the skeletal remains of a black male south of Merryville, on Jan. 4, 1993, in Beauregard Parish. The initial autopsy results conducted by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office in Lake Charles indicated that the unidentified victim died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Parish Council faces $4.6M debt request

The St. Landry Parish Council faces a decision on Parish President Jessie Bellard’s proposal for a $4.6 million revenue bond to pay off past and current expenses. The debt issue is on the Council’s agenda for its meeting on Wednesday in Opelousas.

Judge explains appeals court

The guest speaker Wednesday at the Eunice Rotary Club meeting was Jonathon “JP” Perry, a Louisiana 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal judge. He was a former police officer, a Kaplan City Council member, an attorney and a former state senator.

Downtown Litter Walk set Sept. 20 The National Public Lands Day will have a Downtown Eunice Litter Walk Day on Saturday, Sept. 20 with registration from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and the walk from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and water and snacks from 11:30 until noon. Volunteers are needed.
