VFW bingo Thurdays and Sundays The VFW Post 8971 will hold Bingo. The public is invited each Thursday and Sunday at 7 p.m. to play Bingo at the VFW Hall located on Hwy. 190 East. All proceeds from Bingo games goes back to the community. There will be a New game offered.

Long pier was first step into Gulf

The beginning of the offshore oil industry is commonly dated to the completion of a Kerr-McGee well south of Morgan City in November 1947, but drillers brought in the first well in the Gulf almost a decade before that, in the middle of March 1938.

Aldermen agree to state road deal

With one objection, the Board of Aldermen agreed to a resolution that transfers ownership of two state highways to the city. Alderwoman Germaine Simpson made the lone dissenting voice vote against the deal with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.

Liberty annex transfer legislation in committee

Legislation that would transfer ownership of the Liberty Theater annex from the National Park Service to the city is a work in progress. Jerrie Ledoux, community liaison for U.S. Rep. Mike Johnson, said legislation has been sent to the National Park Service for approval.

GAO report cites Angelle for progress during his leadership at Bureau

A U.S. General Accounting Office report cites leadership improvements at the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement during Scott Angelle’s tenure. Angelle, of Breaux Bridge, served from May 2017 to this January as the agency’s fourth director.

Police chief requests support from U.S. Marshals Service

Church Point Police Chief Dale Thibodeaux has requested the U.S. Marshals Service’s assistance in locating an Opelousas man who is wanted on six counts of attempted second degree murder as well as a juvenile who is wanted on accessory charges.
