Trial delays include Church Point shooting death

Trial dates for two upcoming murder trials with local ties could be affected following the Louisiana Supreme Court’s moratorium on criminal and civil trials in all parishes. The Jan. 11 announcement has pushed back all trials until March 1 due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the state.

Rose Lee Carrier Landry

Rose Lee Carrier Landry passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the age of 72. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 25, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elton with Father Jose Vattakunnel officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Information sought in shooting death of 16-year-old male

A shooting in the 200 block of Gulino Street in Opelousas at about 1:30 a.m. today claimed the life of a 16-year-old male, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.

The Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force and UMC New Orleans are conducting a child passenger safety seat check-up event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 2486 W. Congress St., Lafayette. No appointment is necessary and it is always a free event.

Port Barre kayker who died identified

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents are investigating a boating fatality that occurred in St. Landry Parish on Jan. 18. The body of Thomas Godeaux, 50, of Port Barre, was recovered from the Old Courtableau waterway around 3:40 p.m. Monday.
