Man dies in Opelousas house fire

State Fire Marshal deputies continue investigating the circumstances surrounding a mobile home fire in Opelousas that claimed the life of a male resident. The Opelousas Fire Department responded to a residential fire in the 200 block of Elementary Lane around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Arbor Day celebration planned Saturday at Chicot State Park

Louisiana’s Arbor Day will be celebrated with a tree seedling giveaway at Chicot State Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The tree seedling giveaway will take place at Pavilion 1 near the splashpad in Chicot State Park.
