St. Landry Parish Sheriff Office reports arrests

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. August 20 Justin J. Fontenot, 26, 300 block of Osage Street, Port Barre. Criminal trespass, criminal mischief, resisting an officer (two counts), flight from an officer, no drivers license. Arrested by Port Barre Police.

LSUE holds Spring commencement

ELTL fall registration set The Eunice Ladies Tennis League (ELTL) will hold its fall registration through Aug. 28. Registration is $25 and will include 12 weeks of play with an end of season tennis banquet. The tennis league players play every Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.

Tommy Wayne Stout

Tommy Wayne Stout passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at the age of 79. No Services have been planned at this time.

Devillier receives SPAH award

Jerry Devillier of Eunice learned from S.P.A.H. (Society for the Preservation and Advancement of the Harmonica) that he was the recipient of the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award. He was informed of the award on Aug. 15. The S.P.A.H.

Fontenot steps down as SLP president

Staff report OPELOUSAS – St. Landry Parish President Bill Fontenot announced Tuesday that he would step down from his position to focus on his health. Fontenot was diagnosed with a type of skin cancer known as squamous cell carcinoma earlier this year.
