Woman’s body found outside Iota

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office dputies were dispatched to the 900 block of Ye Ole Country Road just outside of Iota at 7:28 p.m. Thursday. Deputies found a white female outside of the residence and determined she was deceased, according to a news release from Sheriff K.P. Gibson.

First instance of apple snails damaging rice crop reported

No problem with curfew, chief says

The 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. St. Landry Parish curfew is not causing any issues, according to Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot. “There are still people moving about, but we can’t stop everybody,” he said. The curfew does allow people to travel through the city and people going to work.

2nd virus death reported in parish

St. Landry Parish School Board meets via video conference

The St. Landry Parish School Board met Thursday for the first time for a pair of official meetings via video conference. The Board held a committee meeting of the whole for two hours followed by an hour-long regular meeting.

Public meetings held by phone, video-conference

The St. Landry Parish Council held what is probably its first meeting conducted with most members participating over the phone due to social distancing required to combat the coronavirus COVID-19. Two week ago the Council met and did not have quorum to conduct its business.
