CASA banquet is today OPELOUSAS Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of St. Landry-Evangeline, Inc. will be hosting their 10th Annual CASA Kids Benefit Banquet at the Opelousas Civic Center. The event will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m., today with a ticket cost of $25/each.

Jewell Marie Pavur

Jwell Marie Pavur passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the age of 84. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice. Monsignor Robert Romero will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Paul Mausoleum.

Eunice driver arrested for pointing a gun at a vehicle

A 55-year-old Eunice man was arrested in Bayou Vista after he pointed a gun at a vehicle on U.S. 90, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith said in a news release. Sandy J. Guillory, 55, of Acadia Street in Eunice, was arrested at 2:56 a.m. Sunday on a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm.

Acadia jurors raising stink over trash collection change

An apparent new policy instituted by the parish waste collection contractor has police jurors up in arms. Beginning in May, drivers for Waste Connections, Inc., stopped emptying more than two carts per residence.

Reward offered in dog cruelty incident

A $500 reward is offered for information leading to person responsible for shooting and throwing dog off the Bayou Des Cannes bridge on the old Basile Highway about 4 p.m. June 1. The reward is offered by the Humane Society of Louisiana, which reported the incident.

Board moves on library breakup

A move to reestablish the Eunice Public Library gained traction at Tuesday’s city meeting as aldermen approved a pair of ordinances — one to repeal an ordinance forming the Opelousas-Eunice system and the other to reestablish the Eunice library.
