Governor’s top priority is teacher pay

Gov. John Bel Edwards presented a hopeful State of the State address Monday at the Capitol to open the 2019 legislative session. Edwards’ tone stood in sharp contrast to the last few sessions in which lawmakers fought extensively over how to solve state budget problems.

Firefighter honored

Connor Manuel, an 18-year-old volunteer firefighter with St. Landry Parish Fire District 6, received the Louisiana State Fireman’s Association’s first Medal of Valor at the Eunice Board of Aldermen’s meeting Tuesday. The medal recognizes firefighters who have gone above and beyond the normal duty.

Arrest made in shooting

Eunice Police have been peppered with reports of shootings and it wasn’t until Sunday that someone was wounded. A 32-year-old Eunice man was in critical condition after being shot multiple times in the 600 block of Faris Street on Sunday, according to Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot.
