Pedestrian killed in pre-dawn crash

Danny Chambliss, 44, of St. Landry, was killed when he walked into the path of a vehicle on La. 106 at La. 3042 at 4:30 a.m. Sept. 26, according to a Louisiana State Police Troop I news release.

After 40 years, long-time Ville Platte Gazette Publisher/General Manager, David Ortego, has retired from the position he held with the newspaper since June 1978. Ortego began his career in the newspaper business when he was hired as the general manager of Evangeline Publishing Company Inc.

Superintendent dismissed at Parish Council meeting

The St. Landry Parish Council dismissed hearing from school Superintendent Patrick Jenkins at a meeting on Wednesday. The meeting was called to discuss parish government’s budget, but Jenkins was added to the agenda to talk about the lease of a parish-owned Head Start site.
