When will Abbeville’s Lafitte Park open?

For more than a year since the Abbeville City Council voted to give it a name, Lafitte Drive-In Park has been described as a work in progress. During a committee meeting Tuesday evening, council members discussed when, and just as importantly how, that progress will become a reality.

Beebe out . . .or not?

By a 6-4 vote in the closing minutes of last week’s monthly meeting of the St. Martin School Board, members terminated the employment of Superintendent Dr. Lottie Beebe. The action created some confusion, sparked heated debate and prompted a stinging address by Beebe’s attorney.

Parish sales tax collections increase 4%

Total St. Landry Parish sales tax revenues rose 4 percent in August compared to the same month a year ago, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division. Parish revenues in August were $46.6 million, up 4 percent from August 2017 revenues.

The Tri-Parish workforce dropped 344 jobs in July from July 2017, according to federal Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission. There were 69,864 people working or looking for jobs in July in St.

Dead Eunice man ID’d as witness to killing

The only eyewitness in the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office’s investigation into a June murder was recently found dead in Eunice. The witness was identified as Jonas Vigers during a recent bond hearing for Brandon Perkins.
