The Atchafalaya was just a trickle

Today we know the Atchafalaya as a river that is swift, strong, deep, and sometimes treacherous. But it wasn’t anything like the modern stream until the middle 1800s. The main reason for that was a huge raft of logs that choked the river near its head and for 20 or more miles downriver.

The Take Back the Night event had to move indoors due to rain on Oct. 1 to the Eunice Municipal Complex. The event is held by St. Landry St. Landry-Evangeline Sexual Assault Center. It was the seventh annual march and vigil in Eunice.

State Bank & Trust Company announced Jacob N. Bergeron is vice president city manager. Bergeron is a graduate of St. Edmund High School. He obtained his bachelor of business administration degree from McNeese State University. He has been in the banking industry for eight years.

Port Allen man charged with vehicular homicide following crash in St. Landry Parish

Louisiana State Police Troop I troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality on U.S. 71 near Chance Road in St. Landry Parish at about 9 p.m. Oct. 5 The crash took the life of 49-year-old Tony Smith of Plaucheville.
