Boy, 9, wounded in drive-by shooting

A Sunday morning drive-by shooting that wounded a 9-year-old boy on Boudreaux Street is being compared to a shooting that happened in June 2017. Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot thinks there is a similarity to last year’s activities of the street gang known as Goons for Life.

Soybean demand is strong

Worldwide demand for U.S. soybeans remains strong in the midst of a trade war, and China still needs America’s soybeans, according to an LSU AgCenter report on trade tensions with China. “There are, as yet, no signs of slowing global demand for U.S. soybeans, which is positive,” the report says.

Rice harvest looking good

The 2018 rice harvest in southwest Louisiana is past the halfway point, and LSU AgCenter agents say farmers are pleased. “Yields have been good, and it seems overall to be a very good crop,” said Jeremy Hebert, LSU AgCenter agent in Acadia Parish.

It has been about three months since this year’s legislative finale at the Capitol, which was plenty enough time for the Legislature’s leadership to recover and assess the resulting policy output from four sessions.

Chief: Car burglar wrecks

A Lafayette man faces several charges after pulling vehicle door handles escalated to a high-speed chase and a crash in Eunice on Monday morning. Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said police were called at 7:15 a.m. about an attempted burglary at Walmart.

James Destry Bertrand

James Destry Bertrand passed away on August 22, 2018 at the age of 54. James is survived by his three brothers, Stevie Bertrand and wife Tina, Lloyd Bertrand, and Dawin Bertrand and wife Sharon; and two sisters, Angie Johnson and Megan Bertrand.
