LDWF office in Opelousas closed

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has completed the transition to its new regional office at 200 Dulles Drive, Lafayette. LDWF staff from New Iberia and Opelousas are now housed at the Lafayette location.

Pilot transit program links Acadia Parish to Lafayette

This fall, University of Louisiana at Lafayette students who commute to and from four Acadiana communities can let someone else do the driving. That’s thanks to Ride Acadiana, a pilot transit program that will launch Aug. 20, the first day of the Fall 2018 semester.

LED lighting back on track

In January, Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot told Kiwanis Club members that the city had received a $1.6 million grant for LED lighting and the project was to start in six months. Obviously, that schedule didn’t happen, but Fontenot said there’s been details to work out with Cleco.

Sales tax collections rose in July

Total sales tax collections in St. Landry Parish through July were 3 percent ahead of the same period in 2017, according to statistics released Friday by the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.

Mamou native’s body recovered after sailboat incident

The body of Mamou native Sadie Jo Thibodeaux was recovered Tuesday after a sailboat incident Sunday on Lake Pontchartrain, according to The Advocate. Thibodeaux, 32, of Thibodeaux, was born in Mamou, the daughter of Michael and Deborah Thibodeaux.

Sheriff: Good Samaritan robbed at gunpoint

An act of Good Samaritan turned into an armed robbery at Church Point, according to Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson. The intended Good Samaritan was flagged down by a person known to him on La. 95 near Carriere Lane on Wednesday, Gibson stated in a news release.
