SGTMAJ Merlin C. McManus, U.S.M.C. (Ret.) passed away on March 28, 2018 at the age of 92 years. He was born in Eunice, LA and lived in Algiers since 1968. He was veteran of World War II and Vietnam.

Police: Razor blade biting woman charged

A 29-year-old Eunice woman is charged with criminal mischief and theft after police say she stole a razor blade and put it into her food at a fast food restaurant.

UBS drive set Friday at Walmart Blood donations are needed now to prepare for Memorial Day weekend blood needs. The United Blood Services mobile will be in Eunice from 2 to 6 p.m. May 25 at the Walmart parking lot in Eunice.

ALICE report spotlights depth of poverty

The annual United Way ALICE report continues to show St. Landry and Evangeline parishes, along with the state, mired in poverty and many households only a disaster away from economic turmoil. Sixty percent of St.Landry Parish’s households are struggling and do not have an income to meet basic needs.

Grass fire off La. 13

Shortly before 11 a.m. Friday, Eunice firefighters responded to a grass fire along La. 13 south of Eunice. Fire District 4 Capt. Blake Smith, along with firefighters Chase Brown and Thomas Vail put out the fire within minutes.
