Laura "Lou" Jenkins

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our beloved sister, Laura Lucilla Jenkins, 91, on the 8th day of May, 2018. Lou, as we lovingly called her, spent the last 23 years of her life where she was born, in Eunice, Louisiana.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office arrests

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. May 10 Hannah Renee Bourgeois, 25, 340 Cheramie Road, Port Barrre. Two counts of domestic abuse battery. Dillon John Dupre, 24, 300 block of Cheramie Road, Port Barre. Bench warrant; resisting an officer; simple assault.

Blood drives in Eunice, Opelousas The public is asked to donate blood at two events for the Our Lady of Lourdes Donor Center. The blood drives will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 17 at the Delta Grand Theater, 120 Market St., Opelousas, and at the Eunice Municipal Complex, 300 S. 2nd St., Eunice.

Anthony "Tony" Hoffpauir

Anthony "Tony" Keith Hoffpauir passed away on Monday, May 9, 2018, at the age of 57. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at 2:30 PM. at Quirk and Son Funeral Home in Eunice. Burial will follow at St. Ann's Cemetery in Mamou. Deacon Chuck Ortego will officiate.

Aldermen OK millages

Aldermen breezed through an agenda Tuesday that included adopting millage rates that are unchanged from last year and postponing hearings that can lead to property demolitions. The city millage remains are to remain at 6.77 for general alimony and 5 for street maintenance.

Nursing home residents face eviction notices from state

Top officials in Gov. John Bel Edwards’ administration have scheduled a press conference for Wednesday to discuss 20,000 eviction notices that the Louisiana Department of Health plans to send on Thursday to nursing home residents across the state.

UL Lafayette to expand, renovate student housing

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is to begin construction this week on a project to bring nearly 600 new beds and 5,000 square feet of retail space to campus. The apartment complex is the latest step in UL Lafayette’s ongoing effort to expand and renovate on-campus student housing.

UL Lafayette Spring Commencement is Friday

LAFAYETTE — Undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees will be conferred at UL Lafayette’s Spring 2018 Commencement Friday at the Cajundome and Convention Center The General Assembly will be held at 11 a.m. at the Cajundome. Doctoral candidates will be hooded at this ceremony.
