Marathon bible reading starts today

Fête-Dieu du Teche will host the Jubilee of the Word Marathon in the Town Square here beginning on Wednesday, April 4, at 12:30 p.m. and concluding on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 8 at 4:30 pm. Organizers expect the event to draw more than 3,000 people to come and “marinate” in the Word of God.

Sheriff lists recent narcotics arrests, citations

Sheriff K.P. Gibson has announced that deputies have made a number of drug arrests and issued citations. Those include: • Joey Bourque, 24, Prairieville: possession of marijuana (citation). • Amanda Breaux, 41, Crowley: possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia.

Rec seeks baseball and softball umpires The Eunice Rec is currently accepting applications for baseball and softball umpires. Applications maybe picked up from and returned to the Eunice Rec office located at 461 Sittig Road. Applicants will receive training in umpire mechanics.

Anti-hazing bill clears House, heads to Senate

House lawmakers on Monday unanimously supported making hazing a felony. The “Max Gruver Act,” named after the 18-year-old LSU fraternity pledge who died from coerced alcohol consumption last fall, would upgrade hazing from a misdemeanor to try to stop the worst abuses. Bill sponsor Rep.
