Regional juvenile detention center proposed

The creation of a nine-parish Acadiana Regional Juvenile Justice District is now before the legislature. St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard, chairman of the proposed district’s board of directors, said, “Everybody in here knows that we have issues across all nine parishes.

St. Landry Parish awarded $500k grant for blight removal

St. Landry Parish Government has been awarded $500,000 to remove about 90 blighted structures throughout the parish. The money is from a Louisiana Community Development Block Grant and was announced Tuesday in a news release from Parish President Jessie Bellard.

Bulb & Blossom Garden Club renews welcome sign flower bed

The Bulb & Blossom Garden Club and Keep Eunice Beautiful have collaborated on many projects over the years. Keep Eunice Beautiful received a grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful a few years back to replace the damaged welcome sign on La. 13 north and to replant the landscaping.
The  plan to close Eunice Elementary remained unchanged at a St. Landry Parish School Board Committee of the Whole meeting on April 15, but an option was added for Washington Elementary.  Both elementary schools are to be closed for the next school year and their use changed. Both elementary schools are to be used to enlarge the parish’s vocational technical education.
