Celeste Gomez earns Rotary honor

Celeste Gomez is the 2024 Eunice Rotary Club’s Citizen of the Year. Gomez was recognized and honored at the Rotary Club meeting Wednesday. Van Reed, chairman of the Rotary’s Citizen of the Year, said Gomez thought she was going to talk to the Rotarians about the Garden Club.

President Trump is taking a lot of heat over his Plan of Reorganization which uses Tariff’s. That heat is coming from parties that have different priorities, such as Wall Street, the Deep State, and the media.

Mamou Police pay, staffing scrutinized

Katrina Hackney, owner of The Coulee Tavern, addressed the April 9 meeting of the Mamou Town Council regarding the personnel budget for the Mamou Police Department and town security. She noted there is definitely a lack of officers and pay is a big issue.

DeVillier also cites insurance costs

As the Legislature opens its session on Monday, Speaker of the House Phillip DeVillier issued the following statement. “As I’ve traveled the state visiting members in their districts, the overwhelming priority of constituents shared is the high cost of insurance.

Legislative Auditor finds procedural problems at LSUE

A Louisiana Legislative Auditor procedural audit of Louisiana State University at Eunice cited problem areas in a report released on April 9. The audit of business operations spanned July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2024.

Bulb & Blossom Garden Club wins top state awards

The Bulb & Blossom Garden Club of Eunice, representing District VII, won top awards at the Louisiana Garden Club Federation Conference held in Alexandria on April 9-10. Jean Johnson, who has written a twice-monthly column published in The Eunice News, won first place for public relations.

Saturday cleanup is successful

The Keep Eunice Beautiful cleanup effort in conjunction with the state Love the Boot Week drew about 100 volunteers, according to Donna Baltakis, director of Keep Eunice Beautiful. The number of volunteers was the most ever, she stated.
