Area rice, soybean producers gather here

crowley - Rice and soybean producers from Acadia and the surrounding area gathered Thursday morning for the first in a series of meetings hosted by the LSU AgCenter to help farmers prepare for the 2018 crop.

Street overlay project talked by council committee

CROWLEY - Earlier this week the Crowley City Council committee meeting started with the exciting news of a citywide street program. However, the project is still in the planning stages and it will take approximately two to six months for the initial inventory to be completed.

Joseph Thomas Carter — “Spunky” — departed this earthly life on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, in Lafayette. He was born on Monday, Oct. 10, 1955, to Mary Mouton Carter and Viese Carter Sr. Carter was an employee at Hollier Flooring for 20 years and then became self-employed.

Clotis “Blue” Pormier

Funeral services will be held for Clotis “Blue” Pormier, 93, at Roberts Cove Church of Christ at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, with Brother Derek Richard and Brother Jack Harris officiating. Visitation will begin in the Duhon Funeral Home - Crowley Chapel on Friday, Jan. 5, at 3 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Tax tweaks, driver training changes among new laws

More than 20 new or rewritten Louisiana laws went into effect with the beginning of the new year, adding requirements for drivers-in-training, tweaking tax break programs and affixing other modest adjustments to the books.

PP Police arrest one for ATV theft; still in search of one suspect

A suspect in an ATV theft that occurred in Pine Prairie was recently arrested, while a second suspect remains wanted by the village’s police department. The individual who was arrested is 17-year-old Devon Jade Chapman, of 114 Tully Cloud Rd., Oakdale.

Dejean Circle shooting victim dies in hospital

LAFAYETTE - One of three men shot outside a Crowley housing development two weeks ago has succumbed to his injuries. Crowley Police Chief Jimmy Broussard announced Friday evening that Howard Claiborne, 47, had died in a Lafayette hospital.
