The Eunice News annually invites elementary school students to write their Christmas wishes. The wishes submitted to The Eunice News are in a special section today. At St. Edmund, the wishes are “Dear Jesus” and at the public schools “Dear Santa.

Male, 23, killed during Christmas party melee

A 23-year-old male was shot dead in an early Saturday morning shooting during a Christmas party at the Southeast Community Center, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said. Police were called to the scene about 1:20 a.m.

Louisiana sugarcane crop poised to break record

It looks as if Louisiana’s sugarcane grinding season is going to be an extended one. But there is a good reason for the late finish—an exceptional sugarcane crop. Most years, the majority of mills complete grinding by the end of December.

Retiring deputy honored at St. Landry Parish Council meeting

St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Deputy David LeJeune was honored with a plaque of appreciation at Wednesday’s St. Landry Parish Council meeting in Opelousas. LeJeune said he has worked 40 years in law enforcement. The deputy provided security at Parish Council meetings.

Police Department Christmas cheer

The Eunice Police Department collected toys and food for five families to be distributed on Friday. The toys and food came form employees, the public, St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the fire department.
