Safety concerns raised after Mamou Mardi Gras

The Evangeline Parish Police Jury, during its meeting held March 10 revisited concerns expressed by citizen Rufus Searile regarding the recent and deadly Mardi Gras tragedy in Mamou. The incident sparked a renewed commitment to public safety.

Rep. Fields to hold March town hall meetings

Congressman Cleo Fields, District 6, is kicking off a second round of town hall meetings to be held across Louisiana’s Sixth Congressional District.

LSUE’S Nikki May receives award for learning innovation

LSU Eunice Assistant Professor Nikki May is the recipient of a teaching award from LSU Online and Continuing Education (OCE) during its recent Innovation Series.

Parish Council to consider pay raise for clerk

The St. Landry Parish Council is limited to hiring two people and one of those employees is being considered for a raise at its meeting scheduled at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Old City Market, 131 W. Bellevue St., Opelousas. Council Clerk Sherell Jordon is up for a raise from her $23.

Keep Eunice Beautiful keeps an eye on $5K grant

There no doubt about it, Keep Eunice Beautiful director Donna Baltakis has an eye on a possible $5,000 grant from the state’s Keep Louisiana Beautiful. Baltakis spoke at Tuesday’s city council meeting and noted, “I have to promote Keep Louisiana Beautiful.
