Acadia School Board elects new officers, hears reports

With no meeting set for January, there was actually one item that needed to be taken care of before hitting February: The election of officers. Doug LaCombe, who had served for four years as president as the board’s president, offered up his thanks for an opportunity to serve.

Tri-Parish farmers among Louisiana Master Farmer program graduates

Fourteen people who have completed training through the Louisiana Master Farmer program, an initiative led by the LSU AgCenter and several other organizations to help agriculture producers adopt practices that promote good environmental stewardship, received their certifications on Jan. 12.

School chief to reorganize Central Office jobs

The St. Landry Parish School Board’s Central Office is on the verge of a reorganization in a plan presented by Superintendent Patrick Jenkins. “This reorganization will not cost the Board any additional funds,” Jenkins said. “The best case scenario is it will save us funds — over a $100,000.

Tax chiefs spar over authority

Baton Rouge Attorney Brian Eddington and State Tax Commission chairman Lawrence Chehardy entered a heated discussion Wednesday during the Tax Commission’s meeting Wednesday whether local assessors or the commission has the more authentic authority to assess property taxes.

Edwards campaign expected to report $3.4M raised
