A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at 10:00 AM for Barbara Lejeune Matte, 72, at St. Edward's Catholic Church with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Fr. Wayne Duet will officiate. Visitation was held on Monday at 2:00 PM until 10:00 PM.

Terry Manuel

Terry Glynn Manuel passed away on Monday January 16, 2017 at the age of 60. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday January 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Quirk and Son Funeral Home in Eunice. Deacon Charles Ortego will officiate. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Chataignier.

Free child car seat installation Free installation of child car safety seats is being offered from 4 to 6 p.m. every Monday at Word Ministries, 1960 W. Laure Ave., Eunice. The seats will be installed by a nationally certified technicians.

Sheriff: Shoe shines available

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz announced today that his office will offer old- fashion shoe shine services to St. Landry Parish. The services will be housed at the main Public Safety Complex, 1592 East Prudhomme, Opelousas, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

From the January 1999 files of The Eunice News. Marla Zaunbrecher was a student teacher at East Elementary under the guidance of Susan McGee, a third-grade teacher. Zaunbrecher was a 1990 graduate of Eunice High School.

United Way seeks homeowners who were flooded

Homeowners who suffered flooding in August 2016 and are still in need of repairs are being sought by the St. Landry Evangeline United Way. Susan Fisher, special projects coordinator, said only homeowners are eligible for the assistance.
