What I want for Christmas, but won’t get

Every year a few weeks before Christmas, my sweet wife asks me what I’d like for Christmas. And every year, I tell her, “Nothing! I’d rather spend our money on the kids,” meaning our three now semi-grown (but fully-spoiled) daughters.

The holidays offer us a second chance

Most of us have been swept up in the momentum of the holiday season. We have passed Thanksgiving, reached the Christmas milestone and are approaching New Year’s Day, the third in the trilogy of holidays. Sure, there is a lot of our attention on holiday shopping, football, and social events.

Eunice, St. Landry funding OK’d by Bond Commission

BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana State Bond Commission approved funding for a variety of important projects across the state, including 16 multifamily housing developments in Baton Rouge, Franklin, Hammond, Houma, Lake Charles, LaPlace, New Orleans, Pineville, Plaquemine, Shreveport, Walker and Zachary.

Parish budget points to leaner times

The St. Landry Parish Government budget includes a $2 million line of credit for the 2024 amended budget and a $1.5 million line of credit in the 2025 proposed budget. Parish President Jessie Bellard presented the Parish Council the amended current budget and proposed 2025 budget at the Dec.

The Eunice City marshal ranked 24th in compensation among the 47 city marshals and constables included in a Louisiana State Auditor study released on Monday.

2024 rice harvest started fast but faded late

It was a tale of two crops this year for Louisiana rice farmers. Rice planted and harvested early had excellent yields. The ones that were planted and harvested later, not so much.
