The following people obtained marriage licenses at the St. Landry Parish Clerk of Court Office. Wednesday, June 5 Samuel Charles Jarrell of Sunset and Anna Maria Lafleur of Opelousas. Ramon Vargas-Garcia of Eunice and Nallely Cerecer Ortiz of Eunice.

Mamou student on honor list

Elizabeth Shaw of Mamou was named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2024 term at University of Maryland Global Campus. To be eligible for the honor, a student must complete at least six credits during the term, earned a grade point average of at least 3.

More child abuse victims can sue after Louisiana Supreme Court reversal

Adults abused as children decades ago will be able to sue over the mistreatment under a Louisiana Supreme Court ruling released Wednesday. Justices overturned their decision from March that declared a “lookback window” for lawsuits over older child abuse allegations unconstitutional.

Planning safer towns

Safe and active ways to get to everyday activities, such as walking or biking to the supermarket or bank, was the focus of the second Louisiana Rural Complete Streets Summit. The event was recently held at LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge.

2 busted for prostitution at Opelousas spa

Two women ere arrested for prostitution at the Green Spa located at 628 Creswell Lane in Opelousas, according to a news release from St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
