LSU shatters record for largest Spring Graduating Class, awards 4,949 degrees during Spring Commencement ceremonies

LSU awarded 4,949 degrees during the university’s 313th commencement exercises May 17 and May 18. The previous record was 4,563 in Spring 2022. 3,700 students earned undergraduate degrees or certificates and 1,249 received graduate degrees or certificates.

LSU Eunice names 400 students to Spring 2024 Chancellor’s List

Louisiana State University Eunice announced that 400 students were named to the Spring 2024 Chancellor’s List. Students must have full-time status, completing more than 12 credit hours during the Spring 2024 semester, and maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average.

Sheriff: Marijuana, illegal THC sold from Opelousas business

An Opelousas business owner has been charged with selling drugs after St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives investigated a tip fro a confidential source on May 14. The tip reported marijuana and illegal THC vapes were being sold at One Stop 731 E.

La 95 (Saint Julien Road) in Evangeline Parish closed due to high water

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that La. 95 (Saint Julien Road) will be closed, effective immediately, due to high water levels on the roadway. The location of the road closure is approximately 1.25 miles south of La. 29 (Vines Street).

Memorial Day ceremony set May 27 The VFW Post 8971, American Legion Post 129 and DAV Chapter 19, will have a Memorial Day ceremony at 6 p.m. May 27 at the Rotary Foundation corner at South 2nd and Park Avenue. There will be a guest speaker. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
