The following are excerpts from the Eunice Police Department radio dispatch logs. Thursday, April 11 6:11 a.m. En route to the 500 block of North Martin Luther King. Upon arrival homeowner was at the neighbors with a comforter. No one was in the home. 7:24 a.m.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff arrests

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. Friday, April 12 Makayla Monae Trout, 40, 3000 block of Highway 190, Elton. Theft of a motor vehicle. Arrested by St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. Adam Higginbotham, 45, 300 block of Gentry Road, Washington.

KEB Clean Up Day set Saturday The statewide Love the Boot cleanup will be from 8:30 a.m. until 9 a.m. with registration Saturday, April 20 at the Eunice City Hall. All supply pickup will be located in the lobby of city hall. Volunteers will be asked to pick up all trash from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Darwin Francis Fontenot, Sr.

Darwin Francis Fontenot, Sr. passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at the age of 80. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Father Hampton Davis Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Chapel Cemetery.

Elvin Ray Fontenot

Elvin Ray Fontenot passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024, at the age of 76. No Services have been planned at this time.

Dust cloud darkened skies, dirtied homes

April 14, 1935, is still referred to as Black Sunday in the American Midwest because that was the worst day of one of the worst dust storms in U.S. history. More than 300,000 tons of topsoil were blown away during that storm, some of it landing in south Louisiana.
