Rolling roadblock planned for the Exit 11 (Sunset/Grand Coteau) overpass on Saturday

Interstate 49 northbound and southbound will have rolling roadblocks between Exit 7 and Exit 15 in St. Landry Parish on Saturday beginning at 7 a.m. and ending at 9 a.m., weather permitting. The first rolling roadblock will begin at Exit 7 northbound and end at Exit 11.

House OKs public money for private schools

Public money for K-12 students in Louisiana is closer to being steered to private schools under a proposal the state House of Representatives approved Monday.

Parish sales tax collections continue to increase

Sales tax collections in St. Landry Parish continue to show a year over year increase, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board tax division on Monday. Total parish collections through March were $24,898,150, up $2,281,959 or 10.1% over the same period in 2023.

City council races through its agenda in 18 minutes

The Eunice mayor and Board of Aldermen went through its agenda in 18 minutes on Tuesday. In Mayor Scott Fontenot’s business, Alderman Chad Andrepont announced the Belly Buddies Color Fun Run from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday starting at City Hall.

Killer loses appeal

A killer lost an appeal to the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal of his conviction for a killing just outside the Eunice city limits on April 11, 2022. Leonard James Miller was appealing his convictions on second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

St. Landry Parish Courthouse closed

The St. Landry Parish Courthouse will be closed today for severe weather. Parish Government employees will report to work for 10am. The courthouse will reopen tomorrow. For more information contact Parish Government at 337-948-3688.

Bridget Sue Fletcher Carroll passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the age of 72. No Services have been planned at this time.

St. Landry Parish public schools closed Wednesday

Due to severe weather forecasted for our area on Wednesday, all St. Landry Parish schools and administrative offices will be closed. This closure includes all after-school activities and sports practices. We anticipate resuming regular school hours on Thursday.

David “Scot” Simar passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024 at the age of 66. A Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Quirk & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dennis Gotreaux officiating.
