Fringe trees present a spring spectacle

If you’ve caught sight of those stunning, petite, white-flowered trees this spring, you’re witnessing one of the most dazzling spectacles of the season: the fringe trees.

Sex offender convicted again

A registered sex offender has been convicted again — this time for being a felon in possession of a firearm. According to St. Landry Parish District Attorney Chad Pitre, Elliot Simms. 44, was found guilty by a 12-person jury on Tuesday of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Prairie Acadian Cultural Center plans April programs

The Prairie Acadian Cultural Center is scheduling programs in Eunice this April. All programs are free and open to the public. Moi, Toi, et Lui is scheduled from 1 to 2 p.m. April 13 at the Eunice Depot Museum, 220 S C C Duson St., Eunice.
A planning meeting of the Carron Cemetery Family Alliance  (CCFA) was held at the Eunice Depot Museum on March 21.  Attending, from left, were  were Don Fuselier, Diane Martel Bihm, CCFA treasurer, and standing, from left, were Margrett McGee Fels, administrator, with Norma Zeigler of Baton Rouge. Founded 14 years ago, the CCFA is an all-volunteer family group tasked with the maintenance and preservation of the historical Carron Cemetery. Education Savings Account may be costly

A proposal that would allow families to steer Louisiana public education dollars to private schools — regardless of their income — is expected to cost the state hundreds of millions of dollars, with a wide gap between legislative calculations and a good government group’s projections.
