St. Landry Parish Sheriff arrests

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. Thursday, Nov. 23-Monday, Nov. 27 Marquelin Keith Raheem Stevens, 18, 600 block of Kim Drive, Opelousas. Disturbing the peace, aggravated battery. Arrested by Opelousas Police.

St. Landry Parish shelter to waive adoption fee on Saturday

In collaboration with the Bissell Pet Foundation, St. Landry Parish Animal Control is announced adoption fees are being waived as part of an Empty the Shelters initiative. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Tractor Supply, 241 Acadiana Prep Circle, Opelousas.

Federal jury trial ends with guilty verdict against Abbeville man for trafficking of fentanyl

U.S. Attorney Brandon B. Brown announced that a federal jury trial against Gabriel Hawthorne, 41, of Abbeville, ended with the jury finding Hawthorne guilty of conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, specifically fentanyl. U.S. District Judge Robert R.

St. Landry Crime Stoppers seeks tip in Opelousas killing

St. Landry Crime Stoppers needs the help in solving a homicide in the Opelousas area. On July 16, deputies received a call from the Opelousas Police Department stating that a shooting had occurred during the time of an auto accident.

Crash kills St. Landry Parish teen

A single-vehicle crash on La. 360 about five miles north of Interstate 10 claimed the life of 17-year-old Hunter Joseph Higdon of Port Barre. State Police were notified of the crash shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 25.

Concealed carry permit class Dec. 2 The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a one day concealed carry permit training class beginning at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 2 at 211 W. Park Ave., Eunice. The course fee is $100 and $8 for a spouse or renewal.
