The Eunice News will publish announcements for candidates in the Nov. 8 election at no charge when accompanied by payment for advertising.

2021 Louisiana Master Farmer awards presented

Eight Master Farmer recertifications and the 2021 Louisiana Outstanding Master Farmer award were presented during a meeting of the Louisiana Association of Conservation April 20 in Baton Rouge.

DOTD announces St. Landry, Evangeline road projects

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced today that 19 projects around the state recently received bids. Fifteen contractors presented apparent low bids totaling $51.1 million.

Greagoff named LSUE’s vice chancellor of business affairs

LSU Eunice has named Amy Greagoff the vice chancellor of business affairs, it was announced this week. Greagoff joined the university in 2017. Greagoff has served on an interim basis as the head of the financial side of LSUE since July 2019.

Eunice teen faces 4 counts of attempted murder in shooting

Victor Jordan Jr., 18, of the 100 block of Boudreaux Street, Eunice, is charged with four counts of attempted second-degree murder for an April 15 shooting. Jordan is also charged with criminal damage to property.

Give Depp credit for defending his reputation

I was feeling a bit under the weather this past week, so I ended up spending time at home in front of the television. The thing that really mesmerized me was the Johnny Depp trial on Court TV. I never watch Court TV.

A few random observations

I never had the Easter Bunny pegged for a PR flack, but he can now add it to his CV. Shortly after the White House Easter Egg Roll, the basket-toting Easter Bunny intervened and led President Biden away from a reporter who asked the president about Afghanistan.
On Saturday, members of the Eunice Bulb and Blossom Garden Club added plantings around the Welcome to Eunice sign located on the west end of Laurel Avenue after giving the sign a thorough cleaning. The beautification project coincided with Saturday’s Citywide Cleanup organized by Keep Eunice Beautiful as the culminating activity of the statewide Love the Book Week. Cleanup makes a difference

The City of Eunice received a spring cleaning during the week long Love the Boot event organized by the Keep Eunice Beautiful. Donna Baltakis, Keep Eunice Beautiful director, said 61 people registered at Saturday’s cleanup. The cleanup was held in the state from April 18 to 24.
