Sober driving urged for holiday

With record numbers of vehicles expected to hit the road this Independence Day holiday, the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission is sponsoring “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” to protect travelers from people who insist on driving while impaired.

Tips sought in Eunice homicide

St. Landry Crime Stoppers needs help in solving a homicide in the Eunice area. On June 19, at about 1 a.m., the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call from Eunice Police.

Jury convicts Opelousas man of killing wife with rifle

After just over 30 minutes of deliberation a St. Landry Parish jury reached a verdict convicting Derrick T. Hills of the second-degree murder of his wife, Rachelle Arceneaux, according to a news release from St. Landry Parish District Attorney Chad Pitre.

State Fire Marshal offers purchase, use tips as fireworks retail sales begin

With fireworks tents and stands popping up across the state this week, the State Fire Marshal’s Office wants to encourage all Louisiana residents to not only be safe when using fireworks, but knowledgeable when buying them.
