Mamou Police ID person wanted in shooting

Mamou Police were notified at 7:46 p.m. Monday by officers working a detail in the downtown area that there were shots fired in the 200 block of 6th Street. Responding officers arrived to the area and located a white male victim lying in the road with multiple gunshot wounds.

Juvenile charged in shotgun death

A 14-year-old juvenile has been charged in the shotgun-shooting death of a 15-year-old boy in June 2021. Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said the death was first reported as a suicide, but as an investigation unfolded it became clear it was an accidental shooting.

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. February 25-28 Derick Anthony Lewis, 24, 200 block of Perry Lane, Leonville. Aggravated flight from an officer (2 counts), possession of Schedule I CDS (2 counts). Arrested by Opelousas Police.
