McNeese rodeo returns, Eunice student is on team

McNeese State University’s 67th annual rodeo returns to Burton Coliseum with a special Halloween rodeo at 7:30 p.m. today open free to the public. The competition begins on Friday with the slack at noon and performances at 7:30 p.m. and resumes Saturdaywith the slack at 9 a.m.

Cutlines: The first thing one notices when exiting Interstate 49 to Forest Hill in Rapides Parish is mile upon mile of plant nurseries — the largest concentration in the state, according to one attendee of a boxwood dieback disease identification and management training presentation on Oct. 19.

The Louisiana National Guard activated one hundred percent of its Soldiers and Airmen to respond to devastated communities around the state in the wake of Hurricane Ida’s destruction.
The 2022 Get It Growing Lawn and Garden Calendar is now available from the LSU AgCenter. Nadine Melancon’s photo of a bee on a cosmos flower graces the cover. These annual flowers bloom summer through fall and come in colors of purple, pink, orange, red and white. The daisy-like flowers attract bees, birds and butterflies and prefer full sun and survive poor soil conditions.

If you are like me, you suffer from seasonal allergies — sneezing, headaches, itchy eyes and cough, all due to pollen from local, native plants that bloom in autumn. Among many culprits, two of the most common are goldenrod and ragweed.

Iota woman appointed to child death panel

Pamela Q. Cart of Iota has been reappointed by Gov. John Bel Edwards to the Louisiana State Child Death Review Panel. Cart is a forensic relations specialist at the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency.
