Crotons, a tropical fall plant

Fall conjures thoughts of gorgeous landscapes dressed with the colors of the season: yellow, orange and red. During the fall holidays, there are a couple of traditional plants you may see used to create festive décor for our homes. One is mums, and the other is a tropical plant called crotons.

Six decades after a Louisiana man’s disappearance and presumed murder, his family is still looking for answers and a body to bury. Carl Ray Thompson, then 26, spotted his cousin’s two-toned Buick on the side of the Ferriday-Vidalia highway as he sat in the back of a sheriff’s car in July 1964.

UL Lafayette to help state meet carbon dioxide, methane goals

LAFAYETTE — The University of Louisiana at Lafayette will establish an extension service to help the state meet objectives for reducing carbon dioxide and methane emissions. The Louisiana C1 Extension Service will be part of UL Lafayette’s Energy Institute of Louisiana.

The grocery tab for this year’s Thanksgiving dinner in Louisiana will run about $11 higher than in 2020 — but it will still fall below the national average, according to an LSU AgCenter survey.

Chenieres have romantic history

The word cheniere is unique to the Cajun coast, as are the little islands it describes. The word comes from the Acadian word chene, meaning “oak,” and describes groves of live oak trees bent by Gulf winds along a series of ridges rising from south Louisiana wetlands.
