United Way establishes community relief fund

The St. Landry-Evangeline United Way has established the COVID-19 Community Relief Fund to provide resources to nonprofits.
Ginger LeCompte, executive director of the St. Landry-Evangeline United Way, said, “... there are those among us who are in great need.”
According to the latest United Way ALICE Report, when the working poor - ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constraint, and Employed) is, in normal times, one emergency away from a financial crisis, it is certain that during the COVID-19 crisis, the situation is even worse.

Waiters to raise money for Women United

Fun, frivolity and shenanigans will be the theme for the Men Who Wait on Women Who Wine, sponsored by Women United, an affinity group of St. Landry-Evangeline United Way.
The event is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. July 21 at the Delta Grand Theater, 120 N. Market St., Opelousas.
The evening is to feature distinguished “Waiters.” The waiter who brings in the most tips will win bragging rights for a year, the title of “Head Waiter” and a gift.
Wine and a steak dinner will be provided by Café Josephine.

United Way scheduled Giving Day on May 10

St. Landry-Evangeline United Way will be participating in South Louisiana Giving Day, a project of Community Foundation of Acadiana, on May 10.
South Louisiana Giving Day is a 24-hour, online fundraising event to inspire the community to come together for a 24-hour period to contribute as many charitable dollars as possible to support the work of local nonprofit organizations, churches and schools.
Beginning at midnight on May 10, donors can visit SouthLouisianaGivingDay.org on their computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone and make a donation to an organization or cause.

United Way plans Boogie Ball

The St. Landry-Evangeline United Way Boogie Ball will be held on from 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Opelousas Delta Grand Theatre.
Food will include Cochon “Ghoul”lait provided by Café Josephine, eggplant and shrimp dressing from Soileau’s, and brisket.
A silent auction with goodies and delights from many local shops and restaurants.
Costumes are optional, but encouraged. Monster mash to the band Southwinz. Cash bar.

Want to help with flood, hurricane relief? Here's one way.

United Way of Acadiana will be launching Flood the Love, a community donation drive to collect essentials, in response to Hurricane Harvey in Texas and the consequent flooding across Louisiana. This donation drive is in partnership with United Way of Southwest Louisiana in Lake Charles, United Way of Greater Houston and St. Landry-Evangeline United Way.
