Bill protects trusts from bogus claims

Louisiana’s junior U.S. Senator John Kennedy has only been in office a few months, but he already has a chance to make his mark. As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he will soon consider a bill that would help people – particularly veterans – struggling with asbestos-related illnesses, protect America’s businesses, and expose scam artists.
The legislation is the Furthering Asbestos Claims Transparency (FACT) Act, and it would protect asbestos-related personal injury trust funds from bogus claims.

America’s greatest threat — crony capitalism

As we celebrate another Independence Day with all our liberties and inalienable rights, it would also be prudent to consider the warnings that our Founding Fathers gave us. In 1787 Benjamin Franklin was asked if the new Constitution gave the country a monarchy or a republic? Franklin’s famous response was “a republic - if you can keep it”, and when asked to elaborate, he said; “Sir, there are two passions which have a powerful influence over men — the love of power and money.

Ensure grads are equipped for citizenship

“I may have to do WHAT to receive my high school diploma?”
“Pass a U.S. citizenship exam. The Civics Education Initiative is hoping state legislatures will require high school students in all 50 states to pass the exam in order to graduate. Some states, such as Arizona, have already passed such a law.”
“But my high school made me take American history courses, and I got straight A’s.”
