District 4-4A’s North Vermilion earned its first state championship with a 5-3 win over top-seed Tioga. Three of the five teams in District 4-4A earned playoff spots. No. 3 North Vermilion (33-7, 7-1) opened the playoffs with a 13-0 victory over No. 30 Huntington.

St. Landry Parish was well represented this softball season as six teams made the LHSAA playoffs. In Class 4-A, No. 7 Eunice rolled to an 18-0 win over No. 26 Eleanor McMain to open the playoffs before falling 21-9 to No. 10 Belle Chasse.

City Recreation Department offers summer programs for youngsters

Three Eunice Recreation Department summer programs for youths starts with Hunting, Boating, Fishing, Archery Camp from June 7 to 11. The camp is for youths 10 to 15 years old. Registration for the camps opens at 8 a.m. Wednesday online at www.eunicerec.com.

It was a memorable year for St. Edmund athletics as every sport made the playoffs. The school’s athletes were recognized Monday for their accomplishments in the annual award ceremony. Henry Brown and Gus Brown were given the Coach Joe Nagata Memorial Award.

St. Ed’s closes year at state meet

BATON ROUGE – The sports year ended Thursday for several St. Edmund athletes at the Class 1-A state track meet. Kieran Davis finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.52. Clay Miller finished sixth in the javelin competition with a throw of 141-02.

Blue Jays earn golf’s state runners-up

LAFAYETTE – It was a strong showing for St. Edmund in the Division IV boys’ competition in the LHSAA State Golf Championship as the Blue Jays finished as the state runners-up.

Blue Jays head to state track meet

NEW IBERIA – St. Edmund qualified in eight events for the state track meet after strong performances at the LHSAA 1-A Region II competition held at New Iberia Senior High. The 1-A state meet will be held Thursday at LSU’s Bernie Moore track complex.
