The St. Edmund defense recorded a shutout and the special teams made a crucial kick as the Blue Jays earned a 3-0 win over Vermilion Catholic Friday in the Joe Nagata Memorial jamboree. “We had a lot of little mistakes,” St. Edmund head coach James Shiver said after the win.

Turnovers proved to the difference as Iota grabbed a 21-6 win over Eunice Thursday in the Joe Nagata Memorial jamboree held at Bobcat Field. “I saw a young team for the first time under the lights,” Eunice head coach Andre Vige said.

Jamborees kick off season

Jamboree action will bring fans to watch their favorite teams under the lights after COVID-19 erased the beginning of the football season last year. Eunice High will face Iota at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bobcat Field.

Alumni tourney crowns champions

The 15th annual Eunice High Alumni Association annual softball tournament was held this past weekend and three teams earned bragging rights for the entire year. Class of 1999 earned a 12-7 win over the Class of 1996 and before for the Major League title.

Lady Bobcats look for strong season

The Eunice High volleyball team made history last season and the Lady Cats are expecting to be even stronger this season. “We are returning a quality group that has at least three years of experience,” EHS head coach Wayne Fontenot said.

One step closer to the season

The high school football season is one step closer as the local teams will scrimmage this week. Eunice will take on Kaplan at 5:30 p.m. today. “The next two weeks will be big for us to find out how we have progressed with the new faces we have,” Eunice head coach Andre Vige said.

EHS alumni tourney returns after year off

After the 2020 tournament was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 15th annual Eunice High Alumni Association softball tournament will be held this upcoming weekend. “It is great that we can return this year,” tournament committee member Tara LeBlanc said.

CHURCH POINT – After back-to-back district titles and a historic run to the Class 3-A state semifinals, the Bears could have another strong football season. Church Point head coach John Craig Arceneaux said their history doesn’t carry much weight heading in this season season.

IOTA – The Bulldogs struggled to a 3-4 finish last season and Bulldog head football coach Josh Andrus is looking forward to starting a new campaign. The 2020 season was delayed until October and was limited to eight regular season games by the LHSAA due to the pandemic.

BASILE – Bearcat head coach Kevin Bertrand is hoping this season begins uneventul after the 2020 season that was full of challenges for the Bearcats and District 4-1A. It started when The LHSAA decided to not allow spring pratice due to COVID-19 then halted scrimmages and jamborees.
