Betsie Fontenot named Eunice High Teacher of the Year

Betsie Fontenot is Teacher of the Year at Eunice High School. The 2000 graduate of Eunice High School teaches Algebra I. She started teaching at Eunice High in 2013, however, has been in her educational career since 2005.
After graduating high school, Fontenot attended LSUE for two years and continued her bachelor’s degree in secondary math education at McNeese State University. She graduated from McNeese in 2005 and began teaching the same year in August at Welsh High School in Jeff Davis parish. She was awarded Teacher of the Year there in 2011.

Pearl Manuel celebrates 102nd birthday

Grandparents Day celebrated at Highland

Highland Elementary recently held a Grandparent’s Day celebration where grandparents were able to enjoy donuts with their grandchildren, take pictures, and visit their classrooms. Cooking demonstration at the Jean Lafitte Center

The Jean Lafitte, National Historical Park Cultural Center hosted a kitchen demonstration Sept. 23. The guest home chef was Camille Reed, who prepared a nouveau Cajun crawfish pasta salad, which everyone enjoyed. Among a full house, were visitors from Eunice, Iota, Jennings, and tourists from out of state and country. Prior to the kitchen demonstration guests enjoyed music by Jamie Bearb, on fiddle, Kyle Matte, accordion; and Paul Fruge, on guitar. There were historical questions, discussions, and admiration about the cultural center building.
