Central Middle principal arrested

The principal of Central Middle School in Eunice is accused of encouraging two juvenile students to fight in his presence. Eunice Police Chief Kyle LeBouef reported Brett Simien, 48, of Church Point, was arrested on Thursday on misdemeanor warrant for contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.

Smoke in the air coming from Sabine Parish fire

By late morning smoke was evident in Eunice. Fire Chief Chaise Brown said the smoke is coming from fires in Sabine Parish. According to The Advocate, Sabine Parish has been hit particularly hard over the past few days with about 2,000 acres burned.

Parish president qualifying decision appealed

St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard faced one last hurdle on his way to becoming unopposed for re-election. On Friday, Bellard declared he was unopposed after a district court judgment disqualified opponent Richard Lewis.
