LSU Tri-Parish graduates listed

LSU awarded 1,039 degrees to graduates at the university’s 311th commencement exercises Aug. 11, the highest number of degrees awarded during summer commencement ever. The previous record was 969 graduates in summer 2021.

The Refinery Mission’s annual Hunters for the Hungry Clean Out Your Freezer Day food drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Local sportsmen and their families are encouraged to donate frozen processed game and fish from the 2022 season. Collection sites are listed at www.

Miss Eunice, Teen Miss Eunice set Aug. 26 The Eunice Pageant Organization, along with the city of Eunice, will present a Miss Eunice Pageant at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Northwest Community Center. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased from any contestant or at the door for $10.

Parish Council OKs ordinance creating planning commission

A parish planning commission is to be created after the St. Landry Parish Council approved an ordinance for it at Wednesday’s meeting. The ordinance passed unanimously without comment from Council members or at a public hearing.

St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard is winning re-election after his opponent, Richard Lewis, was disqualified Friday morning in a hearing in the 27th Judicial Court District.

Six of 13 St. Landry Parish Council seats are contested in the Oct. 14 election. At Wednesday’s meeting, the uncertainty about the District 13 position left vacant by the resignation of Coby Clavier was settled until the election with the appointment of Lynn Lejeune.

Lejeune selected for interim St. Landry Parish Council seat

Former Eunice Mayor Lynn Lejeune won the interim District 13 St. Landry Parish Council seat on a 7-4 vote at Wednesday’s meeting. Lejeune and Darrell Huckaby, an Army retiree and reserve Eunice Police officer, were in the running for the position vacated by Coby Clavier.

La. 95 Spur “Tasso Loop” road work planned

La. 95 Spur “Tasso Loop” between the East and West Junction of U.S. 190 will have daily alternating lane closures beginning Monday until Aug. 30 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather permitting. The closures are necessary to allow crews to perform asphalt milling and paving operations.

Festivals Acadiens et Créoles 49th annual music lineup released

Festivals Acadiens et Créoles announced the music lineup for the 49th annual three-day FREE Cajun and Zydeco music festival, which will take place Oct. 13 to 15 at Girard Park in Lafayette.
