National Park Service seeks comment on Great River Road historic context study

ATLANTA – The National Park Service (NPS) opened a 45-day public comment period on a study to evaluate an eleven-mile stretch of Great River Road, along the west-bank of the Mississippi River, for possible designation as a National Historic Landmark (NHL).

Confederate monument conundrum

A monument to Confederate soldiers on the St Landry Parish Courthouse continues to present a conundrum to the Parish Council. An estimate of $23,000 to disassemble the 100-plus year-old monument on the northeast corner of the square was presented by Opelousas lawyer Thomas Dejean.
