What is the Brownfields Redevelopment Program? Eunice Rotarians found out Wednesday. A Brownfield is a property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant or contaminant.

Highland Early Learning Center to continue

Highland Early Learning Center will continue operations in the coming school year with classes for pre-kindergarten students. St. Landry Parish Superintendent Milton Batiste III clarified the Eunice school will remain open. The school has been a mix of parish and Head Start classes.

Free live music at the Depot Museum The Prairie Acadian Cultural Center will sponsor free live music every second Saturday of the month at the Depot Museum, located at 220 S. CC Duson in Eunice. From 1 to 2 p.m. July 8 Shawn Saucier Trio will entertain the public.

Jury convicts Opelousas man of killing wife with rifle

After just over 30 minutes of deliberation a St. Landry Parish jury reached a verdict convicting Derrick T. Hills of the second-degree murder of his wife, Rachelle Arceneaux, according to a news release from St. Landry Parish District Attorney Chad Pitre.

Evangeline Parish mother wins Louisiana Farm Bureau Discussion Meet

Evangeline Parish resident Raquel Manuel is the 2023 Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers & Ranchers Discussion Meet winner. It was her first time participating in the event — a competitive mock committee meeting which allows professionals in agriculture to develop leadership skills.

Tri-Parish workforce down slightly, jobless rate creeps up

The Tri-Parish workforce totaled 68,181 in May, down 258 from May a year ago, according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission. The report also showed unemployment rates up slightly in May compared to rates in May 2022. The unemployment rates by parish in May were: — St Landry, 4.9%, up from 4.

Lafayette superintendent Irma Trosclair to become Eunice High principal

After five years leading the Lafayette Parish School System as superintendent, Irma Trosclair announced Monday she is resigning that position and will become principal/zone leader at Eunice High School. The move will be a homecoming for Trosclair.
