St. Landry Parish offering 3 new housing programs

St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard announced three new programs to help parish residents move toward home ownership this week and is encouraging citizens to call the parish government offices and take advantage of the latest programs.

Council passes budget, president signs it

St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard said he signed parish government’s 2023 budget Thursday afternoon. It has taken about six months for that to happen. At Wednesday’s Parish Council meeting a budget passed with a 10% cut to the general fund budget.

Man, 68, charged with multiple sexual battery counts

A 68-yeaar-old Opelousas man is charged with two counts of sexual battery and five counts of misdemeanor sexual battery, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz. A parent of a juvenile victim met with deputies about his daughter being sexually abused by Alan Courville, Guidroz reported.

Eunice saddle bronc rider places 3rd in national

The McNeese State University men’s rodeo team claimed its second consecutive reserve championship – second best in the nation – at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming, and also won two reserve national individual championships on June 17.

Ordinances regulate movable structures

The Eunice Board of Aldermen approved amending two ordinances regulating movable structures. Both were introduced by Alderwoman Connie Thibodeaux and approved at the June 13 meeting. One change is to forbid storing house trailers, mobile homes “and the like” in the city.
