CDA Court #208 meeting set Monday Court Unit 208 of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday in the Jeanmard Hall, North 3rd. All members are reminded to bring any non-perishable item to contribute to the ongoing support of the Eunice Food Bank.

Cajun Indians are part of Mowata story

Several weeks ago, I reported the oft-told story that the Mowata community in Acadia Parish got its name because nobody could find a board long enough to print the original name of Morewater. I have long suspected that the story was suspect, but had never heard anything to contradict it.

Plans are in motion to construct two detention ponds in Church Point, one in the Low Bottom area, and another near Corporation Street. The ponds, funded by a $2.9 grant from the Louisiana Watershed Initiative, will help to alleviate flooding in the  community. (Above) Pictured are Church Point Mayor Ryan "Spanky" Meche, Ward 1 Council member Christine Semien and Ward 5 Council member Errol "Slu" Comeaux in the Low Bottom area.

Louisiana surpasses 18,000 from COVID-19

Baton Rouge–Louisiana has officially surpassed 18,000 COVID-19 deaths since the state recorded its first COVID-19 death on March 14, 2020. The Louisiana Department of Health reported 18,009 people have died in its Friday COVID-19 data update.

WWII nurse marks a century of life

By Claudette Olivier The Church Point News This October will mark 79 years since Irma Boulet Darphin set sail for England as a U.S. Army nurse in World War II, but just recently, she also marked another important milestone — her 100th birthday. Darphin made a century of life on Aug.

Human skull found in a vacant home

On Sunday, at 12:57 p.m. a human skull was found. Following the call in, the area was taped off and the coroner was notified. The property owner was notified and after speaking with the property owner, the Eunice Police Department released the scene shortly after 2 p.m.

KEB sets Fall Trash Bash on Oct. 22 On Saturday, Oct. 22, Keep Eunice Beautiful and the City of Eunice will hold a Fall Trash Bash where residents, clubs and associations, schools, churches, businesses, and residents of all ages will come together to clean up our city.
