Eunice hotel-motel tax proposed

A hotel-motel occupancy tax has been proposed for the City of Eunice. Mayor Scott Fontenot said the tax has been talked about for at least 10 years, but nothing has happened to make it a reality. At the city’s February Board of Aldermen meeting, a resolution was passed to support the tax.

St. Mathilda Church Lent dinners Fridays St. Mathilda Church will have Fried Fish and fish courtbouillon dinners fundraiser on every Friday during Lent. Pick up is from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Bishop Ceasar Center. A donation of $12 will be accepted.

New pastor at First Baptist Church

The Rev. Andrew Bates is the new pastor at First Baptist Church in Eunice. Rev. Bates comes to Eunice from Baton Rouge. Rev. Bates has been married for the past eight years to his best friend Emily Smart Bates and the couple has one daughter Abigail who is two-years-old.

Church Point hospital Board remains without a chairman

The Acadia St. Landry Hospital Board of Commissioners is entering its eighth month without a chairman, and at this time, there is no set plan for completion of the U.S. Department of Agriculture loan application that would help fund the proposed construction of a new hospital facility.

Creole accordionists Joe Hall and Dexter Ardoin lead the monthly Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. March 11 at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, I-49 exit 23, in Opelousas. The March jam is held in honor of Cajun and Creole music pioneer Amédé Ardoin.

Vet Fest returning to LSUE

The Vet Fest is returning to LSUE on April 1 with a symposium from 1 to 3 p.m. and entertainment from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Dr. Anthony Mumphrey Center. Pamela Veillon, LSUE veteran navigator, said the Vet Fest is back with the intent to make it an annual event.

School Board: Hoodies banned, live-streaming meetings OK’d

The St. Landry Parish School Board voted to ban hoodies, approved live-streaming its meetings and began the search for a new superintendent at its meeting Thursday. Dwanetta Scott. supervisor of Child Welfare and Attendance, explained the hoodie prohibition is a safety issue.
